Spiritual Implications in
the Handling of Finances -
There are profound spiritual implications in the handling of money.
Unfortunately, because Christians have not been equipped to apply God’s
financial principles, many are unaware that they have chosen to serve
mammon. Most
Christians are not handling their possessions from a Scriptural
perspective. Many are experiencing financial difficulties and even debts.
Consequently they are not growing in spiritual maturity and in their
relationship with Jesus Christ.
Consider the following: 1) How we handle money affects the intimacy of our relationship with Jesus Christ. In Luke 16:11 Jesus said, “Therefore of you have not been faithful in the use of worldly wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?” In the parable of the talents, the master commends his servant who managed money faithfully: “Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” (Matt 25:21). Only when we handle money faithfully can we enjoy true riches: a close relationship with our Lord. What Jesus is saying to us is this: intimate fellowship with Him is related to our obedience and wise handling of money. Sadly, this is a fundamental truth which many Christians have failed to practice. 2) Money competes with Christ for our affection and lordship of our lives. There are many challenges facing our nation which also affect us as Christians. Fierce global competitions pose great threats to our fragile economy. Terrorism is another. Pressures on family life and temptations to lower our moral values and standards are always before us. Although all these are serious problems, they are not the central one. Christians are not submitted to Jesus Christ as Lord. The primary competitor with Christ for our affection is money. Jesus tells us: ”No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24). There are many many more Financial Truths that are found in the Bible today. In fact, there are over 2.350 verses in the Bible that deal with the subject of money and finances. At Crown Financial Ministries Singapore and all over the World, we seek to educate and illuminate these truths to you. |
